During the
last years it has become evident that the production of poetry in
Buenos Aires has experienced an overflowing growth. There is an enormous
amount of publications, and also textual (magazines, fanzines) and
oral spheres (meetings and poetry readings) directed at making this
material known.
In this respect, Plebella does not only aim at making this material
known and visible because we consider that the work done by the different
undertakings is efficient for the concretion of this spread of new
material. Above all it aims at the articulation of different “readings”
which will try to elaborate starting points to process that production,
which on its own, emerges with great energy.
It is not the intention of this magazine to impose lines that would
block discussion nor is it the elaboration of a unique critical direction
of the readings that it will encompass. The main objective is the
constitution of an authentic critical sphere where the notion of process
and production will be the principal dynamic.
So the content
suggests a wide critical section of the most recent poetic production,
inviting people who are involved in the literary activity from different
spheres of this intellectual field to collaborate: writers, representatives
of different generations and levels of consecration, university critics,
directors of poetry publications (from specialized magazines of international
distribution to fanzines and web pages), directors of literary supplements
in newspapers of local distribution, coordinators of poetry spaces,
editors of different formats (multinational, independent editorials),
social communicators in the cultural area, public funcionarios, contest
juries, etc.
Added to this, the magazine provides different sections which deal
with the poetic activity from different points of view: book reviews,
interviews with authors, translations, comments on events and research
on points of contact between poetry and other local artistic disciplines.
We believe
that in this moment there is no publication of this sort in our country,
exclusively dedicated to contemporary production and that, due to
the immense amount of it, it becomes necessary to build a space that
not only “shows” that production but also analyzes it
and shows other faces of the artistic work.
Plebella
aims at being distributed in different spheres. On the one hand, through
the analysis it wants to present lines of reading and bibliography
which will provide sources of research for the academic sphere, and
also which will become a bridge between the more peripheral public
and the new production, e. i. Plebella expects not only to open the
door so that the new production is “out there” but also
to suggest different approaches so that those who are interested in
the topic from different perspectives will be able to rely on (preceding)
basic tools to start to “process” on their own. On the
other hand, through the reviews, the interviews, surveys and varietes
it expects to disclose the work itself and those actions that surround
and also “belong” to the activity of the writers today
(staging, distribution, spontaneous thinking on their own and others’
production, reviews written by writers of books of very recent publication.)
